VCA-DCV Certification

VMWare Certified Associate – Data Center Virtualization (VCA-DCV) certification

What is VCA?

If you’re looking to get your VCA certification, then you’re going to need to meet specific knowledge requirements set out by VMWare to achieve the VMWare Certified Associate certification. If you have no previous VMWare experience you will find that the exam is difficult and you need to know VMWare pretty well to pass the exam.

In this article I will explain the 6 main VCA certification components (6 core components of VMWare Certified Associate exam preparation) and give more information about how the exam testing process works.

First of all, if you already know about VMWare Certified Professional aka VCP, then you are probably wondering what is VCA? Well, VCA is a new certification administered by VMWare and the good news it’s not as expensive as VCP – yes! certification that doesn’t cost you thousands of dollars – finally! Thank you VMWARE. If you ever tried to get VCP certified you would know that the VCP certification is expensive, and it’s not easy to convince your employer to send you to a class that can cost thousands of dollars. If your work doesn’t cover the cost, it’s even harder for you to justify the expense out of your own pocket.

Because of this, many SMBs and admins working in small environments can’t afford the VCP certification, so, the introduction of this new VCA certification is an absolutely great news for all of you guys! It’s a great opportunity to acquire industry recognized certification at an affordable price tag.

The new VMware Certified Associate certification fills the gap between being a hands-on administrator and being a potentially skilled hands-on administrator. Now Vmware’s VCA certification is similar to VCP in a way that it’s primarily targeted to IT people who are responsible for administering VMWare virtual environments and the training that we provide meets and exceeds VMWare expectations. This certification is a crucial step toward becoming a fully certified VMWare administrator. On the VCA test VMWare will ask questions from a wide range of material and the test requires pretty good understanding of VMWare vSphere line of products.

VCA has three different tracks to choose from: Data Center Virtualization (VCA-DCV), Workforce Mobility (VCA-WM) and Cloud (VCA-Cloud).

That being the case, our VCA exam preparation training has been specifically built to give you all the knowledge you need to succeed at the exam.

Why should you be looking into becoming a VMWare Certified Associate (VCA-DCV)?

An industry well-recognized VMWare certification combined with our 5 day training and practical experience with VMWare is what you need to succeed. By attending the course and earning VCA, you are certified to effectively install, run, and administer VMWare vSphere.

So, VMWare VCA Certification is essential to jump-starting your career, as companies place high value on this type of datacenter and cloud education.

What are the VCA Certification Advantages?

There are numerous advantages of becoming a VMWare Certified Associate. Aside from offering employers or clients an industry-recognized distinction which they usually have confidence in, certified individuals are permitted to use the official “VMWare Certified Associate” logo on their business cards and website. Other benefits include inclusion in beta exam classes, and reduced registration costs for VMWare events and programs and of course better career opportunities.

What are the VCA-DCV requirements?

Basically speaking, there are two different paths to VCA certification based on your background.

Number one: If you are just starting and have no experience with VMWare you need to attend our course VMware vSphere: Install, Configure and Manage.

Number two:  After taking the VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage course sign up for the exam and pass the VCA-DCV exam with a minimum score of 300 out of 500 points.

What to expect at the VMWare Certified Associate Exam?

You are going to see that people report having different experiences during taking the VCA exam which vary from one person to another and their technical background.  However, let’s take a look at what to expect on the exam.  These recommendations are all based on the experiences that our customers went through to pass VCA exam and shared with us. You may experience similar results when you go for your VCA exam as well.

First, you needed to set an appointment with Pearson VUE test center. This is done through VMWare’s website – from the Home page select

Services –> Then Certification ->  And then Get Certified and look for the Data Center Virtualization section.  Click on VMware Certified Associate– Data Center Virtualization (VCA-DCV). And under Take the Exam you have the option to click on Exam Registration. Complete the request to register and make a note of your Candidate ID.

Then you are going to be sent over to Pearson VUE site to create a new Pearson VUE web account – this is where you are going to need your VMWare Candidate ID assigned to you in the previous step. If that didn’t happen just go to and search for the section Associate and Professional Level Exams and proceed with the selection of language, location, date and time of your exam for your VCA Exam.

Taking the VCA exam.

Eventhough it’s administered by Pearson VUE you do not have to go to a test center to sit the exam. This is a web based exam, so once registered you can take the exam immediately. The exam consists of 50 multiple choice questions and as with other VMware exams is graded on a scale from 100-500. A score of 300 is required to pass and you have 90 minutes to complete the exam. If you are not a native English speaker you will receive 30 minutes extra. You have a little less than 2 minutes per question, so make sure you don’t spend too much time answering one question. You can mark any questions for review if you are not sure what’s the answer right away and then at the end of the questions you can review them again. Generally speaking it takes about 20-40 minutes to complete the exam.

Straight after the exam, you will receive an official confirmation specifying that you completed the test on VMware and weather you were successful or not.

Even if you are a day-to-day user of VMware and have a deep knowledge of ESXi or vCenter Server you won’t be able to pass the exam without good preparation. Our VCA exam preparation training and labs is all you need to prepare you for the exam.  I highly recommend you purchase it today and get ready for those difficult and unexpected test questions.

I also recommend that you prepare yourself well for the VCA exam. Otherwise, you probably won’t be able to pass the VCA exam.  Some of the questions are tricky and you can easily choose the wrong answer.

So don’t take any chances and sign up for our VCA training and make sure to spend at least a week of VMWare Practice to better understand the technology. Our training will get you ready for the VCA exam and will save you time and money!
